Berlin is a city where history, art, resistance and cultures from around the world meet. The Berlin Gate International Film Festival grows from that spirit: a gate is not a wall — it is a place of passage, exchange and arrival.
BGIFF exists to find real talent and to give independent work somewhere to be seen. It is a platform for filmmakers, screenwriters and photographers who create with courage, honesty and a personal vision — regardless of budget, background or industry connections.
The festival's purpose is not simply to hand out a title or a laurel. We are building a credible, lasting platform where independent work can be discovered, where filmmakers and audiences connect, and where voices overlooked by traditional structures are brought into view.
The first edition culminates in Berlin on 23 January 2027. Between now and then, this journal will document the road: the selection process, the people behind the festival, and the films that pass through the gate.
